Open Access Policy
Plant and Environment offers immediate open access to its content based on the principle that making research freely accessible to the public facilitates a greater global exchange of knowledge.
The term Open Access (OA) was collectively introduced by:
- The Budapest Open Access Initiative
- The Bethesda Statement on Open Access Publishing
- The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities
These initiatives collectively form the 'BBB' definition, which describes Open Access to peer-reviewed research literature as "freely available literature on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, and use them for any lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself."
Open access represents a new paradigm in digital publishing, wherein the inherent value of the author’s research and scholarly contributions is made available online without any specific charges.
Manuscripts published in Plant and Environment are under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC-BY), providing immediate and permanent free access to all types of original works. This license grants copyrights to the author and allows articles to be freely distributed. Manuscripts can be used productively for societal benefits, provided the original source is appropriately cited.
Repository Policy
Plant and Environment permits authors to use the final published version of an article (publisher PDF) for self-archiving (on the author's personal website) and/or archiving in an institutional repository (on a non-profit server) immediately after publication. The published source must be acknowledged, and a link to the journal homepage or the article's DOI should be provided.
