Frontiers in Microbiology and Biotechnology is committed to providing open access to high-quality research in the fields of microbiology and biotechnology. Article Processing Charge (APC)

To maintain our open-access model and sustain the journal’s high standards of quality, we charge an Article Processing Charge (APC) for each accepted manuscript. The APC helps cover the costs associated with the peer review process, editorial management, typesetting, and the hosting of articles on our platform to ensure their long-term availability.

  • APC for Frontiers in Microbiology and Biotechnology:
    • USD 150 (PKR 40,000) per accepted article.

This fee applies only to manuscripts that are accepted for publication after 1st April 2026 on successful peer review and editorial evaluation. It ensures that Frontiers in Microbiology and Biotechnology can continue to offer free and unrestricted access to all published content, fostering a global and inclusive knowledge-sharing environment.

Financial Assistance and Fee Waivers

We recognize that some researchers, particularly from low- and middle-income countries, may face financial challenges in meeting the APC requirements. In support of global inclusivity, we offer fee waivers and discounts on a case-by-case basis. Authors who are unable to pay the APC can apply for financial support during the submission process. Please contact the editorial office for more details on eligibility criteria and how to apply for a fee waiver or discount.

No Submission Fees

  • Frontiers in Microbiology and Biotechnology does not charge any fees for manuscript submission, regardless of whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected. Authors are only required to pay the APC upon acceptance of the manuscript for publication.

Publication Process

  • Our editorial and peer review processes are entirely transparent and equitable. The publication fee covers the entire process from submission to post-publication, including peer review, editorial management, production, and open-access availability of the final article.
  • We maintain high standards of peer review, ensuring that only rigorously evaluated research is published in the journal. Authors will receive prompt feedback on their submissions to facilitate a seamless and efficient publication experience.
