Peer Review Policy

Frontiers in Microbiology and Biotechnology utilizes a robust online system for article submission, review, and tracking to ensure the highest quality and streamline the publication process. The journal is dedicated to publishing innovative and impactful research in microbiology and biotechnology, with a focus on delivering a seamless experience for authors, reviewers, and editors.

Manuscripts submitted to Frontiers in Microbiology and Biotechnology undergo a rigorous peer-review process to maintain the integrity and excellence of published content. Submissions must demonstrate a clear potential to contribute to advancing knowledge in microbiology, biotechnology, and related interdisciplinary fields. The editorial team prioritizes originality, scientific rigor, and the relevance of research to the journal's scope.

After an initial editorial assessment, the manuscript is forwarded to the Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor for a preliminary evaluation to confirm its suitability for the journal. If deemed appropriate, the manuscript proceeds to a single-blind peer-review process, where it is reviewed by at least two subject-matter experts. The corresponding author is informed promptly of the editorial decision, typically within 4-6 weeks.

If revisions are requested, the authors are required to provide a comprehensive response to the reviewers' comments, detailing changes made to the manuscript. Revised submissions may undergo an additional round of peer review by the original reviewers or new reviewers to ensure all concerns are adequately addressed.

Once the manuscript satisfies all editorial and reviewer requirements, it is formally accepted for publication. Following acceptance, the authors receive galley proofs of their manuscript, where they can address minor typographical errors. Significant changes to the content at this stage are not permitted unless explicitly requested by the editorial team. The journal retains the right to make final decisions regarding matters of style, formatting, and the presentation of figures and tables.
