Author Guidelines

Trends in Animal and Poultry Sciences is an open-access, peer-reviewed international journal. Following the review process (which typically takes around four to six weeks), accepted manuscripts will be marked as "In Press" and subsequently published in the journal’s next issue. Authors are kindly asked to adhere to the following guidelines when submitting their work to the journal.

Copyright

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the work is original and has not been published previously (except as an abstract, part of a published lecture, or thesis) and is not under review elsewhere. Publications in Trends in Animal and Poultry Sciences are freely accessible, and users are permitted to copy, distribute, transmit, and adapt the work, as long as proper credit is given to the original source.

Plagiarism Policy

Trends in Animal and Poultry Sciences upholds a plagiarism policy based on the standards set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The journal permits a maximum of 19% similarity in submitted manuscripts. Authors are encouraged to submit a Turnitin plagiarism report when submitting their papers to ensure compliance with this policy.

Article Submission

To expedite the review process and ensure a smooth experience, authors should ensure their manuscript adheres to the journal’s formatting requirements at the time of submission and during any subsequent revisions. Submitted manuscripts must include full author names, a designated corresponding author, an abstract, and keywords. Abstracts should avoid references, abbreviations, and measurements unless essential. The abstract must succinctly introduce the field, provide background context, summarize the principal conclusions, and include 2-3 sentences that position the key findings within the broader scientific landscape.

Authorship

The contributions of all authors must be explicitly defined. Authors should be appropriately credited following the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), available here. Each author is assumed to be responsible for the specific sections they have contributed and must have full confidence in the integrity of the entire manuscript. The journal follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines on authorship disputes, which can be reviewed here.

Minimum Requirements for Authorship

Individuals listed as authors should meet the following criteria:

1. Significant contributions to the conception, design, data acquisition, or data analysis and interpretation.
2. Final approval of the manuscript version to be published.

Authors must fulfill both criteria to qualify for authorship. Merely acquiring funding, collecting data, or providing general supervision of a research group does not warrant authorship.

Co-author Contributions

It is highly recommended that authors include a statement at the end of the manuscript outlining the specific contributions of each co-author. The journal allows up to two co-authors to be credited equally for the work described. These contributions will be published with the manuscript under the "Author Contributions" section. Individuals who assisted but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.

Minimum Requirements for Acknowledgments

Contributors who do not meet the requirements for authorship, such as those providing technical support, writing assistance, or general administrative supervision, should be listed in the Acknowledgments section. Financial and material support must also be acknowledged. For groups who contributed significantly but do not qualify for authorship, a suitable heading like "Participating Investigators" or "Clinical Investigators" can be used, and their specific contributions described (e.g., "provided scientific advice," "reviewed the study proposal," "collected data," or "offered care during the study"). All individuals mentioned must give written consent to be acknowledged in the manuscript.

Suggesting Reviewers

Authors are encouraged to assist the review process by suggesting at least three suitable reviewers, including their names and email addresses. However, the editorial team is not obligated to use these nominations. Failure to provide potential reviewers may result in delays, as the editorial office may request specific reviewer suggestions, particularly for papers addressing unfamiliar topics.

Format for Submissions to Trends in Animal and Poultry Sciences

Cover Letter

Each submission must be accompanied by a cover letter, no longer than 350 words, outlining the significance of the research, the authors’ agreement for publication, the number of tables and figures, and any supplementary materials. The letter should provide a brief but comprehensive introduction to the submitted work.

To maintain smooth communication throughout the submission and review process, authors must provide their current phone and fax numbers, along with their postal and email addresses.

Article Formatting Guidelines

Manuscript Title

The title of the manuscript should be concise, not exceeding 25 words, and avoid abbreviations. It should accurately reflect the content of the study and be clear and descriptive.

Author Information

Please include the full names and affiliations of all authors. Additionally, the contact details (telephone, fax, and email) of the corresponding author must be provided to ensure efficient communication.

Abstract

The abstract should be informative, self-explanatory, and no longer than 300 words. It must briefly present the study topic, scope of the experiments, significant findings, and conclusions. Avoid abbreviations and include a concise description of the background, methods, results, and conclusions.

Keywords

Following the abstract, include a list of 3-10 keywords or abbreviations that accurately reflect the content of the manuscript.

Introduction

The introduction should set the context for the study, explaining its significance and providing a concise overview of relevant literature. It should outline the research objectives and offer a solution or approach to the problem being addressed, making the content accessible to a broad scientific audience.

Materials and Methods

This section should clearly describe the study design, including materials, participants, interventions, comparisons, and types of analyses conducted. Any new procedures must be described in detail, while previously published methods should be cited. Mention any significant modifications to established protocols and include trade names and manufacturers where applicable.

Results and Discussion

The Results section should present detailed findings from the study, providing all necessary data to support the conclusions. The Discussion section should interpret these results, offering detailed explanations and insights without restating the data. These sections should be separate to maintain clarity.

Acknowledgments

In this section, authors should acknowledge individuals, grants, and funding sources that contributed to the study but do not qualify for authorship.

References

References should be formatted using in-text citations (Last name of the author, year) and listed in APA style. Only references cited in the text should appear in the reference list, which should be alphabetized. Authors are encouraged to use primary sources whenever possible. Avoid citing abstracts, conference proceedings, or submitted manuscripts unless they have been accepted for publication. Whenever available, provide an online link to each reference.

Tables

Tables should be single-spaced and formatted with appropriate headings and footnotes. Each table must be on a separate page, numbered consecutively, and accompanied by a descriptive title and legend. Tables must be self-explanatory and should not duplicate information presented elsewhere in the text or figures. Avoid embedding MS Excel files as objects in the manuscript, and maintain a copy of the file in .doc format for the review process.

Figures

Preferred formats for figures include .doc and JPEG. If figures consist of multiple layers or components, please provide the original Adobe Photoshop files. Ensure that images are cropped as closely as possible to the content and have optimal resolution. Each figure must be labeled with Arabic numerals and contain a descriptive title and legend. Information in the legend should make the figure understandable without reference to the main text.

Numerals

Arabic numerals should be used for labeling figures (e.g., Figure 1), and uppercase letters should be used to indicate figure parts (e.g., A, B, C). Each figure legend must provide sufficient detail to make the figure comprehensible without referring to the text.

Equations

If equations cannot be encoded using MathML, they should be submitted as TIFF or EPS files. Each file should contain only one equation and should be uploaded as discrete, individual files to ensure proper formatting and readability.

Additional Information

Supplementary information should be submitted as separate files, with each item clearly explained. These items must be distinct and should not overlap with the main manuscript content. Properly formatted supplementary files enhance the value of the manuscript by providing additional details that support the study.

e-Prints

Upon acceptance, electronic prints (PDF versions) of the manuscript will be sent to the corresponding author via email. These are considered the final versions of the article, and no further changes will be accepted beyond typographical or clerical errors. Authors will receive free access to the full-text article and are permitted to download the PDF, allowing them to print unlimited copies.

Publication Fee

Trends in Animal and Poultry Sciences is an Open Access journal that operates on a self-supporting model, without institutional or governmental funding. The journal’s maintenance costs are covered by the handling fees paid by authors and sponsors. There are no submission fees; however, authors must pay the publication fee after their manuscript is accepted for publication.

• Publication Fee for International Authors: $100

If authors are unable to cover the publication fees, a waiver request may be submitted. Waiver requests should be made before or during the submission process and sent to the journal’s accounts section at accounts@pagepal.org. The journal does not wish financial barriers to hinder the publication of valuable research.

Final Proof Corrections and Submission

Once the manuscript is accepted, galley proofs will be provided to the corresponding author for review. Corrections must be made and returned via email (TAPS@pagepal.org) or the online submission system within 72 hours of receiving the proofs. Any delay in returning the corrected proofs may result in postponement to a later issue.

The responsibility of reviewing and correcting the galley proofs lies solely with the corresponding author. The editorial staff will not proofread the manuscript, so any errors unmarked by the author will appear in the published version.

Upon receiving notification that the galley proofs are available, the corresponding author must carefully review the typeset pages, including the title, tables, equations, and figures, ensuring that all details are correct. Corrections should be made directly on the galley proofs using red ink to ensure clarity.

Submission of Final Proof Corrections

Once the final galley proofs have been reviewed and corrected, the author must return them to the editorial office within 72 hours. If no further corrections are necessary, the corresponding author should inform the editorial office that they are satisfied with the final version. Upon receipt of the author’s satisfaction confirmation, the article will be sent for final publication.
