The meat industry plays a vital role in Pakistan’s national economy, providing employment to nearly 1.5 million people. However, its growth is hindered by limited understanding of market dynamics and the absence of strategic planning. The lack of comprehensive research on production systems, distribution networks, and consumer preferences restricts the sector’s ability to capitalize on emerging opportunities. Additionally, poor husbandry practices, low-quality feed, and unhygienic handling further constrain productivity and quality. This study identifies critical gaps in Pakistan’s meat sector, particularly in areas such as consumer demand analysis, supply chain efficiency, and marketing strategies. The absence of detailed information on the production and retail processes of local meat varieties, including Desi chicken, highlights the need for targeted research and data-driven policy interventions. Findings emphasize that addressing these gaps through improved research, market analysis, and modern management practices can enhance competitiveness, ensure sustainable growth, and support innovation and diversification within Pakistan’s meat industry.
